What Memories Are Most Important To You?
When myself and my partner , Nicky became parents to our two son's Max and Harrison we started to ask this sort of question of ourselves. I started to look back at my own childhood, and I realized how lacking my own photo album was. I don’t have a photograph of my Father and I alone together. I only have one formal image of my me and my Mum.
None of the photographs I have of myself growing up show me with my toys and favourite pastimes. All of my memories remain in my heart, with no photographs to show my sons what my life was like when I was a boy... their age.
As Nicky and I shared our thoughts on this, we also realized that although parents today have access to modern digital do- it- yourself photography, most families still miss out.
Images stay on hard drives or on camera memory cards to be lost or corrupted later. Family photos often fall short of one parent, "the photographer", photos that are taken are often forced, overly posed or "silly" and many, many parents simply don't get around to taking quality pictures without trying to use a phone to do so.
We believed that we could help change that for today’s families. It inspired us to shoot with fun, relevance, and to capture today’s moments to help remember them tomorrow and for future generations. We also want to encouraging parents to have images of their loved ones on the wall, mantel piece or even printed in a modern coffee table book on display to enjoy. This led to the birth of Duo Photography in 2004.
Why a mobile studio?
When we had our first son Max, we realized just how hard it was to head out and have professional photographs taken with a young child in tow. Even a trip to the mall seemed to turn into a big logistical and psychological challenge similar to hiking across the Nile Delta! Nappies, powders, creams, car seats, sleep times, food … you name it.
Then we were blessed with our second son Harrison, and the logistics became that much more difficult.
So we designed and put together New Zealand's first mobile portrait studio specialising in children and families. We want to bring the studio to you. Its convenient, its fun and entertaining, and it's a simple way to create joyful memorable photographs that reflect this important time in your family’s life; the faces, the love and kisses, and the playful moments that are occurring naturally, right at this moment in your home.
As a result we have become New Zealand’s premier mobile portrait studio experience. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional impact photography without having to leave your home, your neighbourhood, or the places you are most familiar and comfortable with. We have strong family core values, and always offer you our full guarantee with a no pressure approach.
With our third mobile studio launched this year, we are one of the largest photography businesses in the greater Wellington region. Our family portraits are available in Wellington and suburbs, Hutt Valley, Johnsonville, Porirua, Kapiti Coast, Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay (by special arrangement). And East Auckland. See you soon!
