Indoor Family Fun for Bad Weather Days

Family fun

Sometimes the weather just isn't cooperating for outdoor family fun but rainy or winter weather doesn't have to mean cranky, bored kids.

When a kid cries, "I'm bored!" what they really mean is that they need some help initiating an activity. As a parent, you have two options.

You can create a game or activity to do together.

You can create a game or activity for the kids to do themselves.

Even if you don't always have the time to play along, just getting the kids started on something productive and fun is a good way to keep boredom at bay.

So let's look at some indoor family fun for bad weather days.

Get in the Kitchen

These are activities that will require adult supervision but there are many fun activities that can take place in the kitchen. You could bake cupcakes and decorate together, create your own pizza for lunch or bake some cookies. On the non-edible side of things, you might create your own playing dough or do science experiments for fun and learning combined. There are endless opportunities for busting boredom.

Get Crafty

Crafts don't have to be boring. You could have a coloring contest or have the kids turn themselves into a Super Hero and create their own costumes. For younger kids you can do a sensory table or a puppet show. Another idea is Family Memory Card Game where you use photos of family members and create your own personalized game of Memory.

Go with the Classics

Sometimes it pays to go with the old classics. There are many boards games available today, the old ones you grew up on as well as newer versions for today's generation. There are also card games like "Go Fish" and "Old Maid" and some families even get a lot of fun out of making up their own games. You can use index cards, poster board and even old cardboard boxes to build your own fun family game.

Get Active

Finally, just because you can't go outside doesn't mean you can't get active and get the energy out. You can play indoor tag or dancing or a kids' exercise video. You could build indoor bowling and if your child is small enough, they can even jump rope indoors.
