Little Pizzas Let Kids Explore Creative Cooking

Kids love to help out in the kitchen. Often a child's interest in cooking peaks just a little before parents think of their children as mature enough to help out with preparing a meal. Toddlers are very interested in watching their mom and dad as they cook and prepare food, and of course it doesn't take long before they want in on the action. Who can blame them? Cooking involves pouring, mixing, making a little mess, all activities that kids love. Creative cooking ideas for kids are always worth noting, so you can have a few recipes up your sleeve that let your children explore cooking with you.

Mini Pizzas are the perfect children's cooking idea. They are simple to make and they allow your child to use their own creative instinct. You will be letting your child assemble their own pizza on an english muffin crust. First assemble these supplies and ingredients.

Supplies

  • Toaster

  • Conventional Oven

  • Cookie Sheet

  • Table Knife

  • Spoons

Ingredients

  • English Muffins (split into halves)

  • Butter

  • Pizza Sauce

  • Mozzarella Cheese

  • Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, sausage, olives, bell peppers, onions, pineapple, ham, tomatoes etc.)

Adult Steps

  1. Preheat Oven to 175 degrees celcius.

  2. Split and toast english muffins in toaster

Child Steps

  1. Butter the toasted english muffin. (Depending on the age and maturity of your child, you may need to assist them with this step.)

  2. Cover the english muffin with pizza sauce. Squeeze bottles work great for this, but if you are using pizza sauce from a jar they can easily spoon the sauce onto the muffin.

  3. Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese onto the pizza sauce.

  4. Add toppings. (Make sure all the toppings are pre-cooked, for instance, sausage will need to be cooked ahead of time.) Let your child choose their own toppings and assemble them. Encourage them to be creative. Suggest they use the toppings to make a smiley face pizza.

  5. Add a final layer of cheese over the toppings. (If your child is really proud of a design they have created on the pizza you may want to skip this final layer of cheese as it will obscure the toppings somewhat.)

  6. Place the english muffin pizza creations on the cookie sheet.

Adult Steps

  1. Place Cookie Sheet with English Muffin Pizzas into the pre-heated oven.

  2. Allow to cook for 10 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted.

  3. Remove Cookie Sheet and allow the little pizzas to cool two to three minutes before serving.

Your kids will have fond memories of getting to cook with you in the kitchen. Little pizzas are the perfect recipe to allow them full creative control. At Duo Photography, we love to see families connecting and creating memories. When you have memories you want to capture, please contact us.
